Samichlaus Available at Missoula's Worden's

Castle Brewery Eggenberg in Austria is credited with producing one of the world's rarest specialty lagers: Samichlaus Bier. It's brewed only once a year on December 6th. After that, it's lagered for 18 months, increasing depth and complexity as well as providing a fuller body. It's a seriously big beer, coming in at 14% ABV. Now is your chance to get your hands on a bottle or two of this great beer at Worden's. Mark said that he got two cases in, and 750's are going for $16.95/bottle. Not cheap, but it's not every day that you get a chance to grab a beer like this. Buy a couple. Put them in the cellar. Be patient. In time, you will have some truly spectacular beer.

  1. It's important to note that this is the Helles version of Samichlaus (lighter in color, sweeter) and not the more familiar darker version. Helles in German means bright, and hellesbiers tend to have a bigger hop profile and lighter body than their doppelbock companions. Still an excellent beer!

    1. That's a great point. Thanks for clearing that up.
