Barley Wine Fest at Rhino in Missoula

Through the month of February, patrons of the Rhino bar (158 Ryman St.) in Missoula can sample aged Barley Wines. Barley Wine is a strong ale that originated in England. Typically between 8% and 12% ABV, it derived its name because it can be as strong as wine but it's made from grain instead of fruit. However, Barley Wine is really a beer, not a wine. The Anchor Brewing Company introduced Barley Wine to the U.S. in 1976 when the brewery first released its Old Foghorn Barleywine Style Ale.

At the Rhino, one can sample the following Barley Wines:
  • Alaskan 2008 Big Nugget
  • Stone Brewing Co. 2007 Old Guardian
  • Rogue 2009 Old Crustacean
  • Lagunitas 2008 Old Gnarley Wine
  • Sierra Nevada 2008 Big Foot
Prices are $6/Pint, $4/10 oz. or $3/7 oz., unless you come in on a Tuesday when 7 oz. pours are only $1.75.
